Tips for Choosing a Domain Name
After you have made the decision to create a web site, the next logical step is to select a domain name that will be catchy, easy to remember, and help bring your site visitors. This is perhaps the most important step in the entire process, and due to the recent “gold rush” for domain names, it can also be one of the most difficult. Over the past few years it may seem that nearly every “good” domain name has been registered, which is true to a point. This does not mean, however, that there are no good domain names left, you just have to be a bit more creative.

When you are coming up with your domain name it is extremely important to keep in mind the following information:

Shorter is Better
keep your domain name between 5-20 characters if possible, as this will allow your name to be easiy remembered, and will increase its recall value, bringing more visitors to your site and more money to you if and when you decide to sell it.

Common is Better
In order to ensure the highest value for your domain name, it is important to try to make your name as marketable as possible. Branding is extremely important in establishing your site on the web, and therefore you should try to come up with a name based on a common phrase. In addition, to increase value, your name should offer as much business potential as possible.

.com is Better
When you are registering your domain name, try to choose a name still available with the generic top level domain .com. Of all domain name tags, .com is by far the most marketable, and thus the most valuable.

Domain Name Searches
After you have come up with the perfect domain name for your web site, the next step is to find out whether or not “your” domain name has been registered. Prepare to be disappointed. In order to save lots of time, make sure you have a least 10 different variations of your domain name that you would be willing to settle on. You can conduct domain name searches here:

If your domain name is still available, the next step is to register it as quickly as possible. There are literally tens of thousands of companies specializing in Domain Registrations, so make sure you look around to find the best deal.

Domain Name Generators
If you have given a lot of thought to your domain name, and simply can not come up with something that works, you may want to try a Domain Name Generator. With a couple key words, and a company name for commercial applications, a Domain Name Generator will usually be able to come up with something acceptable. In addition, a number of these generators also look up the availability of the domain names it comes up with for you, and make your search easier.

cPanel has another feature better known as the Web Disk. The Web Disk is basically an application wherein you can manage your files. This is more than just having files from the internet. The Web Disk helps you drag and drop files from your local computer so it is like having an extra compartment in your hard drive. The Web Disk is like an extension of your local computer’s storage, which you can access, using a unique login and password for you security. The Web Disk allows you to move, create, copy, and delete files from your server just like how you manage your files in your local hard drive.

Here is a step-by-step guide that will help you to be familiar with Web Disk in cPanel:

25. Scroll up to see the Home button at the top left most part of the screen. Click it.

cPanel is a web-based control panel wherein you can manage your accounts such as e-mail, ftp, domains and more.

Here is a step-by-step guide that will help you to be familiar with cPanel:
The below tutorial will guide you in navigating around cPanel.:

Log in to cPanel

The first thing that you should do is to update your information by clicking the “Update Contact info” icon.

On the switch theme dropdown list on the right side, you can change the theme of your cPanel. Don’t worry, whatever theme you will choose will not affect the performance of the cPanel.

If you have more than one account in cPanel, you can change it by going to the Switch accounts dropdown list box and press OK.

Scroll down.

You can see on the left side the stats wherein you can see the detailed information of this hosting account. For example, you can see the following:

Email accounts

Sub domains

Parked domains

Add-on domains

Ftp accounts

If you scroll down some more, you will see additional information such as the PHP version in the server, MySQL version, IP address, and paths to sendmail and PERL.

To look at the Service status, click the “Click to view” link on the right side of the term Service Status. In the service status, you can see how well your server is working. If you see the green light then it means that it is working fine.

If you scroll down, you will also find the partitioning of the server’s hard drive and see how much space is left that can still be used.

To go back to the main page, click the “Go back” link at the end of the current page.

In the main page of the cPanel, you will see several icons that are separated in boxes. Each group has a different function from the others.

If you scroll down, you will find the group: Preferences, Mail and Files.

Scroll down more and you’ll find the Logs group.

Scroll down more and you’ll find the Security, Domain and Databases group.

At the bottom of the main page you’ll find the link “Documentation” wherein you’ll find the cPanel Manual that will help you understand the purpose and the different features of the cPanel.

Click the “Documentation” link. You can choose anything in the left frame and the resulting page(s) will show in the right frame.

Click any category from the left frame. For example, Databases and you’ll see sub categories, try to click the “Creating a MySQL Database”.

You can learn about the features of cPanel through this Online Tutorial and it is easy to find because it’s just at the bottom of the main page of cPanel.

Scroll back up

Here’s something new in the cPanel 11. You can rearrange the windows to suit your needs by dragging and dropping it to where you want it to be.

For example, click on the Mail box and you’ll see the term “drag” on the left side.

Slowly drag the Mail box.

Drag it on top of the Preference box

Continue to drag and drag and drag

And finally release it. There you go; you have rearranged your windows.

This is the end of the cpanel tutorial; you should now be able to navigate around the cPanel. If you have questions and clarifications, you can always click on the “Documentation” link at the bottom of your home page.

Thank you for reading our tutorial on “Becoming Familiar and Navigating Around in cPanel”.

A domain name is also called host names and it is their identity in the World Wide Web or the Internet. It is also one of the basic elements in Uniform Resource Locators or URL. The most used domain names are .com, .org and .net. You can own a domain name by purchasing a domain from a web hosting service. It identifies ownership of a website and it aims to easily address and recognize Internet resources. An FTP or File Transfer Protocol comes along with a domain name. The FTP is responsible for the transferring of the files between computers to the network.

cPanel is an example of a web hosting service that can allow you to add domains in your account. It has an easy to use, point and click hosting platform and you can create an add-on domain to your account. An add-on domain lets you host additional domain account if it is authorized by your web hosting provider. PGP keys, crontrab tasks, mail and mailing lists and FTP accounts are some of the Add-Ons that cPanel provides. It also has several add-ons that can be purchased for an additional fee.

To learn how to create an add-on domain in cPanel, follow the instructions below:

Log in to cPanel.

Use the Addon Domain feature to add another domain to your account.

To add a new domain to your account, scroll down.

Click the Addon Domains link.

You will now be able to see the Addon Domains page.

To add a new domain, type in a domain name on the New Domain Name box.

Enter the directory name in your main account where the new domain name will be pointing.

Enter a password for the new add-on domain.

Re-enter the password for verification purposes.

Click the “Add Domain!” button. The new add-on domain is now created and its website files should be uploaded to the main account’s directory.

A new FTP account has also been created for the new add-on. To check on it, click the [Go Back] link.

Click the Home icon.

Scroll down and click the FTP Accounts link.

Scroll down and you’ll be able to see the Account Management page.

On the User category, you will now be able to see the new FTP account that was automatically created for the new add-on domain.

Click on the Home icon or link.

Scroll down to go back to the Addons Domain screen.

Click on the Addons Domains icon.

On the Addons Domain screen, you can also remove the add-on domain from the account.

Click the Remove button on the Actions category.

On the new page, click Yes to remove the add-on domain.

The add-on domain has been removed including the FTP that was automatically set up for it.

Click on the Home button or link. This is the end of the demo on how to create add-on domains in cPanel.
